First Aid For The First Years was created by co-founders Zoe and Maggie.
Zoe has been a Registered Paramedic for 10 years, holds a certificate IV in training and assessment and has taught paramedical students at a university level.
Maggie holds dual registration as a Registered Paramedic and Registered Nurse and has 8 years of experience in the field. Maggie also has multiple Australian titles in first aid competition.
After becoming new mums in 2022 we made it our mission to educate and empower as many caregivers as possible in all aspects of baby and child first aid. We wanted to share our knowledge and skills to help others feel confident in caring.
First Aid For The First Years has been based on almost 20 years of combined experience as Registered Paramedics and aligns with evidence based practice and current Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
We cover the more complex / skills based topics in person including:
- The Primary Survey (DRSABCD)
- Advocating for your child
- Allergies & anaphylaxis
- Burns
- Choking
- Croup
- CPR (baby, child and adult)
- Dehydration
- Drowning
- Fevers & febrile convulsions
- Head injuries
- How to recognise a critically unwell baby or child (red flag symptoms)
- Rashes
- Respiratory distress
Work through these less complicated topics online at a time that suits you:
- Bites & stings
- Bleeding
- Meningococcal disease
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Poisoning
We will take your email address on the day of the course and add you into our online course system. You can then work through these modules at your own pace on your phone, tablet or computer.
By focusing on the more complex topics in person (and providing a few of the less complicated topics online) we are able to:
- Spend more time learning about the really important stuffÂ
- Spend more time to practicing skills such as choking and CPR
- Spend more time answering questionsÂ
- Run the course at a relaxed pace
- Finish the course in just a few hours, giving you most of the day free
- Enable you to complete the online topics at a time that is convenient for you
We host our public course at the very beautiful Subi Space, 12/217 Hay Street Subiaco.
These courses are held on weekends and are scheduled on demand. If you are interested in attending a public course please DM us on socials or send us an email to hello@cradleandkin.com.au and we will let you know when we have locked in our next date.
We sure do!
We provide CPR / skills manikins, a first aid kit and a fun and positive vibe.
We cap our public course at a maximum of 16 participants so that we can give you the attention you deserve.
As mums ourselves we LOVE kids so you are welcome to bring young babies along to the course.Â
However, we strongly recommend that if your baby is mobile (crawling or walking) or you want to be fully engaged with the content, that you consider keeping them home with a babysitter.Â
We teach a lot of mothers groups and notice the older the baby, the more challenging it can be for parents to wrangle them while also having free hands to learn practical skills.Â
Also for the record we are very much breast and chest feeding friendly, feel free to feed anywhere anytime!
We will have a 15 minute break in the middle of the course which should be enough time to stretch your legs, have a coffee or a tea and a bite to eat.
We provide tea and coffee however if you would like something to eat please feel free to bring snacks with you. There is a fridge / freezer / microwave available for you to use at Subi Space.
You sure do!
Not only will you take home the skills needed to save a life, you will also receive our first aid manual, which is a quick reference guide covering everything you learn in the course and more (so no need to take notes).
You will also receive our first aid flow chart and medication tracker fridge magnet set.
We understand that life happens, so we will try our very best to reschedule your course to a date that suits both parties. We do however ask that you give us as much notice as possible.
If you need to reschedule your course with less than 48 hours notice we charge a ‘last minute reschedule’ fee of $50 which will be taken from your booking payment.
Unfortunately we do not accept cancellations due to a change of mind.
