The starting solids journey doesn’t need to be one of fear and apprehension. Through our online & in person first aid courses we have taught hundreds of parents how to start solids with confidence, and we can teach you too.

In less than an hour we’ll have you channelling your inner paramedic, as you calmly and confidently navigate meal times, introducing finger foods and different allergens.

Learn how to recognise red flag symptoms of a critically unwell baby or child and feel confident knowing you will never miss a serious illness or injury. This module will teach you to:

  • Recognise respiratory distress, also known as severe breathing problems in babies and children
  • Recognise skin and appearance red flag symptoms 
  • Feel confident knowing exactly when to call an ambulance for your child
  • Download and print your red flags cheat sheet for the fridge, refer to it each time your child is sick or injured and have peace of mind knowing you will never miss an emergency
  • Put your new knowledge to the test with our red flags quiz

After dipping your toes into choking first aid with our mini master class, you are going to love the extra knowledge you will gain from this module. You will learn to:

  • Differentiate gagging from choking 
  • Recognise and respond to both mild and severe airway obstructions
  • Recognise signs of aspiration after a choking incident

  • How to give an Epipen or an Anapen to someone with anaphylaxis
  • Print out your allergies and anaphylaxis cheat sheet and pop in on the fridge to refer to in an emergency
  • Put together all of that learning with a quiz that contains real life allergy and anaphylactic scenarios

We are Maggie and Zoe, proud toddler mums, Registered Paramedics and the co-owners of Cradle and Kin Family First Aid.

Our goal is simple- share our 20 years of emergency first aid knowledge and experience with as many parents and caregivers as possible.

We want to empower you with the skills needed to save a little life, in a fun and relaxed environment, with STRICTLY NO FEAR MONGERING.

Zoe has been a Registered Paramedic for 11 years, she holds a certificate IV in training and assessment and has taught paramedical students at a university level.

Maggie is both a Registered Paramedic and Registered Nurse and has 9 years of experience in the field. Maggie also holds multiple Australian titles in first aid competition (pretty impressive hey?!).

First Aid For The First Years was created by Cradle & Kin co-founders Zoe and Maggie.

Zoe has been a Registered Paramedic for 11 years, holds a certificate IV in training and assessment and has taught paramedical students at a university level.

Maggie holds a dual registration as a Registered Paramedic and Registered Nurse and has 9 years of experience in the field. Maggie also holds multiple Australian titles in first aid competition.

After becoming new mums in 2022 we made it our mission to educate and empower as many caregivers as possible in all aspects of baby and child first aid. We wanted to share our knowledge and skills to help others feel confident in caring.

Starting Solids First Aid has been based on almost 20 years of combined experience as Registered Paramedics and aligns with evidence based practice and current Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

  • You will need a device such as a phone, tablet, laptop, computer, or a TV that connects to the internet
  • A good wifi connection 
  • A teddy or doll to practice skills such as CPR and choking first aid
